Special Events

Special events are events, which take place in addition to the regular classroom schedule. All Special events must be arranged through Student Involvement and Special Events x4092. Special events will forward requests concerning equipment needs or additional assistance to the Media Services Office. It is suggested that the requestor also submit a request to the Media Services Office for the specific equipment needed by calling x4357 or e-mailing the Helpdesk at Helpdesk@frc.mass.edu.

Portable Equipment

Portable equipment can be borrowed through the Helpdesk in the lower level of the Doyle Technology Center. This equipment includes tape recorders, record players, CD players, VCRs, 16mm projectors, portable overhead projectors, slide projectors, LCD projectors, digital still cameras, VHS camcorders, camcorder tripods and microphones for camcorders.
For students to use equipment they must have written permission from a faculty or staff member and it is provided on a first come first served basis. The faculty or staff member is ultimately responsible for the return and condition of the equipment. If you anticipate the students in your class will need equipment (i.e. tape recorders, etc.), please contact a staff member and submit a list of your students as soon as possible, as the number of items are limited and multiple classes may be using them.
To make an equipment request please call ext. 4357 (Helpdesk) at least 48 hours prior to the desired equipment delivery/pick-up. We cannot ensure the equipment will be available if the request is not made 48 hours in advance.

There is also equipment available for pick up in the academic buildings during the day. Equipment includes televisions, VCRs, record players, cassette players, slide projectors, overhead projectors, screens, and 16mm film projectors.
Faculty and staff may submit requests for equipment and support by calling x4357 or by submitting an e-mail to Helpdesk@frc.mass.edu.

Audio and Video Tape Duplication

Duplications of audio and video tapes may be requested through the Helpdesk in the Doyle Technology Center, (x4357). Please bring tapes for duplication and please be aware of copyright issues. Please provide your own tape. Plan for a 48-hour advance notice for duplication of individual items and two weeks for a series.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

To report damaged equipment, please call the Helpdesk x4357.

Multimedia or “Smart Carts”

The "smart carts" are mobile audio-visual type carts that have an LCD projector, document camera, powered speaker, VCR/DVD player and audio cassette player, and a 25-foot cable that will connect to your laptop. This long cable will give you the flexibility of using your laptop anywhere in the room (within a 25 foot radius of the cart). (A laptop is not included in the smart cart- you must provide your own.)

You will be able to access these carts through the building secretaries in the following locations:

Building #Units
Location Person Responsible Phone #
College Center 2 3rd Floor Cage Jessica Frost 4092

Dwight Hall

1 Athletic Center Michele Cunningham 4614
Hemenway Hall 2 212A Lois Oak 4750
Hemenway Hall 1 111A Kathleen Kelly 4700
May Hall 2 2nd/3rd Floor Storage Karen Woo 4801
Whittemore Library 1 210 Marge Sudmyer 4683

The sign-out procedure for the smart carts will continue to be the same as it is for TV/VCR ’s. A faculty member will contact the building secretary to sign up for a smart cart on a given day, at a certain time, and in a particular room. It will be incumbent on the faculty to get the key to the building storage area from the secretary, pick up the smart cart and roll it to the classroom. At the conclusion of the class, the faculty member must return the smart cart to the closet and return the key to the building secretary.

For evening use of these “smart carts” in Hemenway Hall, please contact the Helpdesk at x4357 to schedule delivery and pick up of these items after the department secretary has left.
