Carrying Case or Backpack (Strongly recommended by FSC)    Students need an easy way to transport their notebook and accessories around campus. A carrying case or backpack designed to protect the laptop is ideal to carry everything you need for class. These cases should have plenty of protection and padding.
RJ45 Cable (Strongly recommended by FSC) An RJ45 network cable is needed to connect a notebook computer to a network jack this allows a wired connection to the campus network. Students residing on campus have access to the network using a wired connection in their dorm room. Commuter students can only access the network on campus using the built-in wireless adapter. Commuter Students may want to purchase an RJ45 cable for a wired connection to an off campus network.
USB Memory Key (or flash storage) (Strongly recommended by FSC) This is a portable storage device small enough to fit on your key chain that uses flash memory to store applications and files. The "key" is recognized as a portable hard drive on all modern desktop and notebooks. We recommend that these memory keys hold 64-128 MB.
Surge Protector (Strongly recommended by FSC) Connecting your laptop to a surge protector will protect your laptop from spikes in power while plugged into a power outlet, which could harm your notebook.
Personal Printer  (Strongly recommended by FSC)  Students are able to print wirelessly to any FSC lab printer but may choose to have their own color printer. Network printers are only black and white and not all are available 24 hrs a day. Dell has an all-in-one (printer/copier/scanner) as well as a personal LaserJet available that may be purchased along with the laptop.
Notebook Lock (Strongly recommended by FSC) This is a theft deterrent that allows you to lock your notebook to your desk or another fixed location.
Larger Hard Drive FSC's Dell includes a 30GB hard drive, which should meet the storage needs of most students. A higher capacity drive allows for the storage of more programs and documents on your notebook.
External Mouse Many people find the mouse built-in to the laptop difficult to use. The ability to attach an external mouse is ideal for those users used to desktop computing.
